The soil should be well drained, and the pot should be large enough to accommodate the roots. Place the pot in a sunny spot, preferably sheltered from strong winds, and water regularly. Fertilize with a balanced fertilizer once a month during the growing season. Prune in late winter or early spring to maintain the desired shape. One of the most remarkable is &#8216;<strong><em>Black Night<\/em><\/strong>&#8216; with its long, dark purple, almost black spikes. &#8216;<em><strong>Empire Blue<\/strong><\/em>&#8216;, blue-purple, &#8216;<em><strong>Royal Red<\/strong><\/em>&#8216; with bright red-purple inflorescences, &#8216;<em><strong>Pink Delight<\/strong><\/em>&#8216;, deep pink, and &#8216;<em><strong>Charming<\/strong><\/em>&#8216;, lavender blue, give a glimpse of the diversity of tones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8216;<em><strong>White Profusion<\/strong><\/em>&#8216; is recommended for those who like pure white.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among the varieties with variegated foliage, consider &#8216;<em><strong>Santana<\/strong><\/em>&#8216;, spotted with yellow and with red flowers, and &#8216;<em><strong>Harlequin<\/strong><\/em>&#8216;, with creamy white borders and cardinal red spikes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Beware of the &#8220;dwarfs&#8221; with small leaves: they are in fact varieties with compact vegetation but which grow in height and exceed 1,50 m. Remember &#8216;<em><strong>Nanho Blue<\/strong><\/em>&#8216;, purplish blue, and<br>&#8216;<strong>Nanho Purple<\/strong>&#8216;, dark purple.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the other hand, &#8216;<em><strong>Purple Emperor<\/strong><\/em>&#8216;, purplish flowering, rarely exceeds 1 m in all directions.
